First Birthday Gift Guide!

First Birthday Gift Guide!

My little baby just turned one and I’m scratching my head at how this could have happened! Where did the time go? This year has been the sweetest, most fun year of my life, and so even though I’m sad to be leaving the baby stage, I’m so excited for what is to come as we enter toddlerhood. We had a small party with some of our extended family to celebrate his first year and I’ve rounded up some of the gifts he received that he’s been loving in case you need some ideas for what to give a one year old for their birthday.

1.Infantino Super Soft 1st Building Blocks: I love that these blocks are squishy and soft in my baby’s hand (and they don’t hurt to step on!!), but hold their shape to be able to stack and build. These are a great gift that will last us for long time. We love this 43 piece set.

2.Melissa and Doug Pull Back and Go cars.- Pull back cars are so fun for babies to play with. These are made of soft foam that is easy for little hands to hold. I especially like that you can separate the soft car from the wheels and that they can be washed- great for when messy hands get to them!

3.Squigz!: These were a hit with everyone at my baby’s party- adults and children alike. They are little suction cups that seem to stick almost everywhere. My one year old has so much fun suctioning and pulling these off our back door, the tile, books, etc. We also keep a few of these in the bottom of the diaper bag and they have come in handy so many times at church or doctors appointments. Love these!

4.Basketball hoop: This was another big hit with everyone at the party. It’s adjustable so it can grow with your kiddo. We have ours on the lowest setting and my 12 months old can just barely get the ball over the rim and in the hoop, so keep in mind it might be too tall for them to play with by themselves right away, but your toddler will get to use this for years!

5. Books!: Books are always a good gift. There are sooo many studies about how reading to your baby from infancy will improve literacy skills, speech development, emotional intelligence, and more. We read each night before bed, so here are some “goodnight” books that he got that we’ve been loving.

If your baby is hard on books you should totally check out these indestructible books!

6.Ball dozer: this one is just plain fun for your little one. It’s noisy and lights up and sings cute songs that your baby will love to dance to. It also comes with an off switch if the noise gets to be too much 😉 as your new walker pushes this around it will shoot balls up and drop them back in. It’s fun to watch!

7. Learning Resources Ice cream: the learning that can be had with this toy is endless. You can teach so many concepts with these cute ice cream cones- stacking, sorting, counting, sharing, play pretend! These will definitely entertain your toddler for a long time.

8. Melissa and Doug 6-Piece Cleaning Set: This cleaning set has been a huge hit in our family! My little one loves it, and my niece and nephews have their own sets that they enjoy using as well. It’s adorable to see them all “helping clean.” The set has held up remarkably well, even with their sometimes vigorous cleaning efforts.

10. Last but certainly not least, shoes! : Shoes are such a great gift because they can be costly to young families but they are so needed as your one year old starts walking. I recommend going up a size or two from what you think you’ll need so they can grow into them. My son is already growing out of the first shoes we got him 2 months ago. They grow like weeds at this age!

Another pair we like: Stride Rite 360 Unisex-Child Ace 2.0 Sneaker

I hope these ideas help as you think of what to gift your one year old for their birthday! For similar ideas, see What I’m Getting my One Year Old for Christmas here.
